Wow, another great post, Stoyan. The most interesting part was about using 204 heard in place of 1x1 transparent GIFs.

Keep up the good work.

Hey Stoyan, what a timely article! Love it!

I actually used this post to support a Wordpress Trac ticket that would, by default, include compression/minification to CSS and JS files.

https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/11453

There's another related ticket to <a href="https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/10365" rel="nofollow">reintroduce Gzip compression</a> to Wordpress core as well. Seeing that you use Wordpress to run your site, I hope you'll be excited to support these tickets!

Thank you for your hard work and VERY informative articles. My feed is now one site larger!

Stoyan,

great post. One thing on JavaScript minifaction, that we at dynaTrace have come across is that it is a great performance improvement. However it makes performance tracing - and debugging - a let's say challenge. The Google closure compiler already produces a mapping file which allows to maxify the file again. So far, I found no other minifiers doing that. Are you aware of some?

These posts have been killer, Stoyan. Thanks so much.

The cookied gzip approach for the turtle-tapped users that was described in EFWS seems like a reasonable addition to what's here.
