Coldplay live

Here's my ticket ;)

I went to visit them maybe about three years ago, on a tour right after their second album "Rush of Blood to the Head" was released. They were great back then and they still are now!

Going back to Coldplay, I have a funny feeling that this year's live experience was not as good as the one back three years ago. Sure it was fun, sure I liked it a lot and I'm still listening to X&Y. But … I guess it's all expectations-related.

Three years ago, I went to the concert expecting to have a depressing night with lots of cigarette smoke, dim light and a lonely guy on a piano. Instead there was a great show, with all the lights and the fun you can get, in addition to perfect live performance of all the favourite songs (with only two albums at that time they didn't have much choice but playing pretty much everything ;) )

This year I was expecting the same thing, probably even exaggerating the whole past event a bit in my memories. And I got all that, I had a lot of fun. There was just one detail that I didn't like. I think they overemphasized a bit on the I'm-playing-in-your-living-room part. I mean they wanted to show they're not just some untouchable stars somewhere in the music sky, but they were simply the guys next door. I know they are the guys next door, I can hear in the music and the lyrics, they have that whole effect. Just like Dave Matthews is the guy next door, just like most of my favourite bands, like Pearl Jam for example (seeing them again on Sept 15th ;) ).

So Coldplay didn't have to simulate a by-the-campfire experience, playing a few songs without drums, acoustic only, all packed on small front area of the scene with no special lights, just as if it was a party at my place. This was just too much. Not that I don't still play them pretty much every time I'm listening any music ;)

was letting go, not taking part.
    It was the hardest paa-a-a-art…"
